Kuldeep has not been part of the last three T20 series while Chahal made a successful comeback against Bangladesh earlier this month after being sidelined against the West Indies and South Africa. Glenn Maxwell has taken an indefinite break from the game to deal with mental issues and India skipper Virat Kohli, too, recently spoke about how low he felt during the disastrous England tour in 2014.As the selectors meet to pick the ODI and T20 squads for the West Indies series next month, Harbhajan said Ashwin should get another chance in the shorter versions of the game. Someone like a Sundar needs to learn. You know what you are going through. They get the crowd because the quality of cricket is good. You have to do something else, probably taking Test cricket to the smaller centres where people have not seen their heroes and have not seen action.."This is what I feel if you are looking to bowl a spinner up front (which Sundar has been doing in T20s), you rather have a wicket-taker which Ashwin is. I want him to do well. You cant expect big crowds for an India-Bangladesh game or India-Zimbabwe game."International cricketers have started to open about the mental health of late.Ashwin last played a limited-overs game for India in July 2017, following which he and Ravindra Jadeja were overlooked for the shorter formats with wrist-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Chahal replacing the finger-spinners. It is not right or wrong."Ashwin spins the ball, he has got more variations. With the management and selectors exploring options ahead of the T20 World Cup next year, opportunities have been given to the likes of Washington Sundar and Rahul Chahar. The selectors are trying out various combinations for the T20 World Cup in Australia. There were a lot of low points in my career too, but you keep telling yourself, this will pass."Harbhajan said the crowds wont come to the ground unless it is an even contest. Why not (give him a chance)? He has also done a good job with the red ball recently," Harbhajan told PTI at the Australian High Commission on Tuesday.

That is why a lot of people prefer watching the game at home."I dont see pink ball matches bringing a lot of people to the ground in India.Harbhajan, though, also believed that both Chahal and Kuldeep remain Indias best bet for providing breakthroughs."People say Ashes get the big crowds.Talking about the pink ball Test starting in Kolkata on Thursday, Harbhajan said there are no guarantees if the first five-day game in India under lights will lead to bigger crowds in the future. Harbhajan welcomed the trend of players speaking out."It is your own decision. You have to be strong. Health comes first."You need to ask the management (if they should be playing every game). Something as basic as clean toilets, comfortable seating are not there. I am all for blooding in youngsters but they must learn else they will be replaced, considering the stiff competition," said the 39-year-old. Like Indore (first Test venue) was packed."Some can take it, some cannot. Jadeja was able to make a comeback but Ashwin hasnt. You are the best judge of taking that call as you will be suffering not anyone else," he added. They (management) probably want to see what combination works well for them but good to see Chahal back and hopefully, Kuldeep will be back too. But not many are strong like the others."They are your wicket-takers. You have to have two strong teams LED turn signal lights playing.New Delhi: Spin great Harbhajan Singh feels Ravichandran Ashwin deserves a comeback in Indias limited-overs set-up as a reward for his recent exploits with the red ball."For example not playing in Mohali, taking the game to Amritsar, people will come irrespective of the format."Another big factor (in people staying away from stadiums) is that there is no infrastructure for the public at stadiums in India. People who are wicket-takers will always be in the game, be it Kuldeep or Chahal or whoever. In my opinion, they are your two best options," he said

Gul’s streak of adventure is not new; everyone remembers her as the Bullet-riding bride who made a roaring entry at her own wedding. Gul Panag was never the quintessential beauty pageant winner. Her work and interests transcended boundaries. Since her stint as Miss India (1999) she has pursued modelling, acting, politics and even business all while nurturing her love for travel. Her latest badge of pride is the license to fly. Gul is now a certified hobby pilot — a dream she cherished since she was a little girl. “It was always one of my bucket list items to be a hobby pilot and it was a conscious decision to strike it off this year. I wrote the exams, cleared my solo flying test and will be getting the license by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) soon,” she beams.Between her entrepreneurial ventures and acting projects, Gul decided to balance her time and dedicate herself completely towards her goal. “You don’t get your PPL (Private Pilots License) without 20 hours of solo flying. My last flight was an exam where the captain checked all the necessary tests and I was deemed fit to hold the license. It was an amazing experience,” says Gul who was enrolled at Chimes aviation academy in Madhya Pradesh for a five-week course in flying. “It’s all about prioritising what you want to do and diligently following it. It was a five-week course. I made sure I completed it. It’s important to compartmentalise your priorities, only then you will be able to achieve what you want,” she adds. Gul’s streak of adventure is not new; everyone remembers her as the Bullet-riding bride who made a roaring entry at her own wedding. Her next adventure is to now fly with her husband, Rishi Attari, who also happens to be a pilot. “I want him to be the first person I take on my flight. I’m really excited about it. Rishi is a commercial pilot. My license won’t allow me to fly for remuneration or take commercial flights. I can only fly private planes, which means I won’t be able to be his co-pilot but we definitely plan to take a small trip from غير مجاز مي باشدar (MP) to Khajuraho,” she explains.A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, about two years ago, Gul had a go-anywhere vehicle built named Super Milo. It China LED trailer lights manufacturers was a modified Scorpio Getaway that she used to take on treacherous roads in the Indian Himalayas and on her recent trip with her sister to the Northeast.

The latter has been documented and will be shown on Discovery channel in a few months. “Travel tends to open horizons and widens your perspective. You think bigger and wider unlike the times when there are blinkers attached to your eyes and your thinking is limited; it helps you lead a more fulfilling life,” she asserts. Now that she can fly her own plane, are there any plans of buying one? “The idea is to get along with like-minded people and buy a plane. Since I can’t fly planes commercially, I plan to pool in all the resources and make a club for hobby pilots in India. I also want to learn to drive a truck next,” she grins.

The Joys of pedalling The expert shares the 10 commandments of cycling that will keep you safe for that wind-in-your-face journey ahead! Partha Madhukar, an expert marathoner and seasoned long distance cyclist. My first cycling tip was given by my school principal when he saw four of us riding in parallel on the 12th Main Road in Indiranagar. He stopped his car a few meters ahead, and said, “Boys ride in a single file and not in parallel.”Little did we know that not only was it a safety tip but also one LED trailer lights that is used in racing to reduce the drag effect, and induce drafting or slipstream by the first rider for the one behind. This cycling etiquette makes space for faster motorists in other vehicles, and also saves as much as 40 per cent energy for the riders who are drafting behind the leader. And of course, one takes turns, and the lead cyclist moves to the back of the single file and the next one takes over for another stretch of a few km.Cycling is not unsafe. I feel safer on a cycle because I am naturally more alert and extra cautious about my surroundings than when I am in a four-wheeler. There are misconceptions galore around cycling. There are some basic do’s and don’ts which one should follow to avoid unpleasant experiences and enhance the joys of pedalling. Here are the 10 commandments I have learned from fellow riders and experts that have helped me stay safe, get to places faster and remain fit for more than a decade — touchwood!1 Learn traffic rules, signs and practice them — there is no excuse for not knowing traffic rules. For example, in India cyclists must always ride on the left extreme of the road/lane to allow other bigger and faster vehicles pasغير مجاز مي باشدe. While changing lanes or slowing down or stopping, always use your right hand to indicate to others what you are planning to do. Do not surprise others! 2 Never wear headphones or use mobile devices while riding — a cyclist must use all his senses to stay safe and enjoy the ride — sight, sound, smell are the three most important aspects of riding. I am not a big fan of earphones for multiple reasons — while running not only does it take away the sound of your rhythm, breathing, footsteps but also surrounding natural sounds. While cycling, it is a definite No, because one needs to use surrounding sounds as a guiding factor — an over enthusiastic motorcyclist tailgating, cars and buses trailing from behind to overtake, and with headphones one is in danger of not hearing these vital sounds. It’s foolish to think that by keeping the earphones at a low volume one can get by. 3 Sight plus anticipation — Your eyes are capable of more than you can imagine! For example, when you see a parked vehicle in front, look for brake lights, look for a silhouette to see if there is a driver inside and anticipate that they will open the door or cut you without warning — be prepared, either slow down, ring your bell or change lanes by signaling with your hand. Using peripheral vision — this becomes extremely important and will come naturally after a couple of rides — it’s not always possible to look sideways while cycling. Practice ‘glancing’, using ‘the corner of your eyes without a head turn — we can learn from animals here — their peripheral vision is better than ours — that’s why horses wear blinkers to ensure they look only straight and stay on course but in our case, we must use peripheral vision to enhance safety.4 Smell — This one is my personal favourite — you must use smell as a guiding factor to avoid polluted vehicles, garbage trucks and animal transportation vehicles just to ensure you aren’t holding your breath while riding or drafting behind an obnoxiously smelling vehicle. I don’t wear face masks, though it’s optional. My thinking is that our bodies are capable of dealing with germs floating around and that helps build immunity. But that is a personal choice.5 Wear a helmet and strap it firmly. Wear bright-coloured close fitted clothing — yellow, orange, fluorescent jackets are good and shoes — some people ride wearing sandals — the feet have the maximum contact with the ground on a cycle and given that our roads have all sorts of objects poking out — cables, wires, steel, glass etc, it’s a good idea to have shoes on. Lose-flowing clothes are not recommended to prevent them from entangling with the cycle.6 Use lights — The front lights must be white lights and back lights strapped to the seat post must be red lights. This will also help to add front and back lights on the helmet. A cycling bell is good to have to warn others, especially pedestrians that you are approaching. Some riders have a whistle to ward off stray dogs or unwelcome strangers on a lonely road too.7 Be extra careful at turns and crossings — please do not expect other motorists to see you, especially when a vehicle is turning left, the driver has certain blind spots and may not see you. Our safety is our responsibly. There is also little of use raving and ranting at others who are not following traffic signs or lane discipline or using mobile phones on the road, let the law enforcers do their job, let’s do ours.8 Choosing the right cycle — This topic deserves another article, lookout for it coming soon. As a general rule, one needs to answer the question — what do you ride for — short commute (5-20km) or long distance (50 km plus) or off-road hard terrain riding. For city riders, I find any good branded mountain bike of the right size is most suitable, although many people prefer to ride ‘Hybrid’ cycles which are a combination of road cycles (thinner tyres) and mountain bikes (straight handle bars) which allow an upright riding posture. Given the state of our roads, I ride a mountain bike for commute and use a roadbike for inter city or long distance rides.9 Do keep your cycle serviced, do basic checks before every ride, check brakes, chain tension, tyre air pressure and cycle axle nuts. Basic cycle maintenance can be done by anyone — one can clean the chain with a tooth brush, one can change tyre tubes easily, lubricate moving parts. 10 Know your cycle, love your cycle, take care of your cycle and it will take care of you. Fitness guaranteed.Bicycle diaries of a novice I have been riding to work every Sunday for the past year. And it’s not due to any august fitness goals, more to overcome the endless traffic snarls in the city and do away with sitting in car for hours on end! Cycling to and fro (about 46 km) has been a lesson in getting in touch with one’s inner survival instincts, which sadly, we have all lost in our race to tech-savviness. The first and most important lesson in cycling is to be vigilant, to the innumerable potholes and bumps across the city, that have only gotten worse after every rain. The second is about keeping to your left and giving way to the big, bold and cantankerous fellows while pacing yourself for the 23 km one way. But in all this, the one aspect that truly amazes me is the universal friendliness of the more evolved and wonderful humans I have encountered on my pedal tours, who give you a high-five, thumbs up, even shout out all the best, and give you way, so that you aren’t cruising down a slope to break suddenly at a large motor vehicle looming ahead. There are also many people who chat with you, incase you have stopped for a drink break, curious about your cycling sojourns. On the flip and not-so-nice side, are taxi drivers, auto drivers and bikers who love going in the opposite direction of a one way... they are a bane to any cyclist... One wishes they would have some more sense... or traffic etiquette. Cycling in Bengaluru is a sure shot way of getting to your destination faster, and it’s healthy and reduces the carbon footprint... Though, it would be apt for the city without roads, to first have decent roads to ply on, and if at all there is a glimmer of hope, some cycling paths for those resolute and tireless cyclists that have already done a great job by reducing pollution and congestion, just a wee bit.— The writer loves life in the slow lane.

Research finds method to save turtles, dolphins from fishnets Study reveals lights on fishnets save turtles, dolphins. Most of the turtles caught in the study were green turtles (86 per cent), though loggerhead and olive ridley turtles were also caught. While underwater species from an indistinctive section of the eغير مجاز مي باشدystem including dolphins and turtles and other sea creatures. Researchers have now come up with a study to save turtles and dolphins from fishnet. Placing lights on fishing nets reduces the chances of sea turtles and dolphins being caught by accident, new research shows.LED lights along the top of floating gillnets cut accidental &rv lights caravan lights Manufacturers39;bycatch' of sea turtles by more than 70 per cent, and that of small cetaceans (including dolphins and porpoises) by more than 66 per cent. The study looked at small-scale vessels departing from three Peruvian ports between 2015 and 2018, and found the lights didn't reduce the amount of fish caught from 'target species' (ie what the fishers wanted to catch). The results of the study were published in the journal Biological Conservation."Gillnet fisheries often have high bycatch rates of threatened marine species such as sea turtles, whales, dolphins, and seabirds," said lead author Alessandra Bielli, who carried out analyses as part of her masters research at the Centre for # Ecology and Conservation at Exeter's Penryn Campus in Cornwall."This could lead to declines in the populations of these non-target species -- yet few solutions to reduce gillnet bycatch have been developed."Sensory cues -- in this case LED lights -- are one way we might alert such species to the presence of fishing gear in the water."The researchers placed lights every 10m along the float line of 864 gillnets, pairing each with an unlit net to compare the results."The dramatic reduction in bycatch of sea turtles and cetaceans in illuminated nets shows how this simple, relatively low-غير مجاز مي باشدt technique could help these species and allow fishers to fish more sustainably. Given the success we have had, we hope other fisheries with bycatch problems will also try illuminating their fishing nets," said Exeter PhD graduate Dr Jeffrey Mangel, of Peruvian NGO ProDelphinus. Most of the turtles caught in the study were green turtles (86 per cent), though loggerhead and olive ridley turtles were also caught.Among the small cetaceans captured, 47 per cent were long-beaked common dolphins, 26 per cent were dusky dolphins and 24 per cent were Burmeister's porpoises."This work has further shown the usefulness of lights on nets to save wildlife. We now need lights that are ever more robust and affordable," said Professor Brendan Godley, of the University of Exeter.

A well designed smart TV Mitashi’s TV is based on Android and features a very easy to operate interface. The TV sports a 4K resolution with two HDMI inputs and an airmouse remote for smart features. With upcoming internet broadband speeds increasing and with almost no cap on monthly FUPs, it is watching movies, and OTT channels online are soon becoming the norm in the country. Soon the days will be gone when set top boxes will vanish from below your television sets and the internet will be the only one medium for all your media consumption. And now with increasing internet speeds online content is soon changing from the standard HD to full HD content, almost everywhere. Well, UHD or 4K content is already out there too, but the data bandwidth for common man is yet to lower down on غير مجاز مي باشدts, which when done, will soon see UHD content becoming the norm. With 4K UHD content coming soon, it’s best to get ready with the right gear for consumption. Yes broadband will be at hand, but your media display device will still be that old-fashioned full HD panel resting on your wall. UHD 4K TVs made their debut just a few years ago, but they were very expensive and the main element to drive that TV was content, which was almost unavailable. However, with the evolution of technology and the falling prices of LCD panels, televisions equipped with 4K resolution pixels are now available with down-to-earth prices. UHD 4K TVs used to غير مجاز مي باشدt north of Rs 1 lakh, but today, major brands are retailing their goods with mouth-watering prices just shy of around half-a-lakh.There was a time when a 32-inch TV was the biggest you could find on a television set, but today you can name it and your TV can be made for that size. However, casual homes today can bear 43- to 55-inch panels with ease. The newer technology TVs are now slimmer and lighter — thanks to backlit and edge-lit panels, you can see almost no bulk behind them. Mitashi, an old player into the electronics and appliance market, has recently presented a smart curved LED for its consumers. The TV has a 4K UHD panel and sports smart features with an Android operating system running in the background. With built-in Wi-Fi and all the necessary ports needed for smart operations, we review the Mitashi Curved LED Smart TV MiCE050v34 4KS ahead. Before we move on, here are the basic specifications for your reference.Model: MiCE050v34 4KSType: 4K Ultra HD Smart Curved LED TVDisplay: LED, 48.5-inch, 4K, 3840 x 2160 pixels, Response Time: 6.5msDynamic Contrast Ratio: 400000:1Viewing angle: 178° (H) / 178° (V)Operating system: Android v4.4Processor: Cortex A7, dual core 1.2GHzGPU: Mali 450RAM/ROM: 1GB RAM / 8GB StoragePre-installed apps: Facebook, Email, SkypeFeatures: Screen Mirroring, Built in Wi-FiRemote: Wireless, air mouse + keyboard comboPorts: 2 X HDMI, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x VGA, 2 x AV-in, 1 x Co-Axial, 1 x AV-out, 1 x Micro SD card slotAudio: 10W x 2 speakers built-in, 8Ω / 10W eachTV System: PAL/NTSC/SECAM (B/G, D/K, I, M/N)Video Input support: PAL/NTSCHDMI Input support: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 2160p (4K)VGA/PC Input support: Up to 1920 x 1080, 60HzWi-Fi: 802.11b/g/nEthernet: RJ45 x 1Weight: 12.2kgPower consumption: Standby - Design, Build:The Mitashi 4K TV is a curved display with wide viewing angles, both horizontal and vertical. Curved TVs should not make a difference as it does make it easier to watch from all parts of the room convenient. However, curved TVs showcase the best content for those sitting right in front of the screen. The TV has a large panel, sized at approximately 50 inches, which is good enough for a decently-sized living room or a large bed room. The TV comes shipped with a bundled wall mount, and can also be placed on a table with the detachable stands. At 12.2kg, the TV isn’t as heavy and can be easily handled or moved by a single person. The TV is built Led 6" oval tail lights with a very strong and sturdy frame — it’s made of a combination of plastic and metal for a firm holding of the curved LCD panel within. The exterior is all-plastic with a matte finished rear panel in black and dual-tone silver and black front bezels. The stands are made of metal and are powder-coated. All you will see is just a Mitashi branding on the bottom. There are no glaring LEDs upfront as you would see in other televisions that distract the viewing with a strong power light hitting your eye.A subtle dim red/green LED is seen on the right side bottom that informs the user about the standby/power on condition respectively. Control panel buttons are neatly placed on the rear panel on the right bottom, which is easy to reach and operate. The buttons are placed one below the other and are easy to follow and use.The business end (rear panel) holds all the input and output ports you will ever need. However, we did find that some ports could be a problem for the user to comfortably use, especially the HDMI ports that are downward facing. However, the most used ports (USB and Micro SD card slot) are placed on the left side, which is good for those who would be using external media storages pretty often. Having at least one HDMI port on the left would have been helpful.Sadly, one USB port is blocked as it will be using the air mouse (wireless remote) continuously, leaving just a single USB port for users to plug in their drives. Also, each USB port can only supply a maximum of 5V/500mA, which could make it a little difficult for users who plan to use HDMI dongles that need additional power. The micro SD card slot is also a bit deep, making it difficult for users to eject the inserted micro SD card. Overall, the build is great and the ergonomics for the I/O ports are not as bad as seen on other televisions, so we can’t complain much here.Remote control:The Mitashi TV comes with two remote controllers. While one is an IR-based controller, the other is a wireless/IR combo. The IR remote is like any standard TV remote. It runs off two AAA cells and features rubber buttons with every button you would need for controls. The remote is large enough for a single-handed use and all the buttons are conveniently placed around. Markings on the buttons are in white and are very easy to read. While the IR remote is meant for the basic use of the TV (switching the source, changing channels on analog TV mode, volume, source, etc), you also have options to use some basic functions in the smart TV mode. These include enabling or disabling the mouse pointer on the Smart TV mode, firing up the instant browser, and quickly switching between the Smart TV mode and alike. As for the wireless remote, it is a standard air mouse that runs on a rechargeable battery. It is very simple and highly ergonomic, especially when using it in the Smart TV mode. This remote is a combo of a mouse and keyboard, which helps a lot when using the TV for smart features, especially when web surfing and alike where both mouse and keyboard (text) inputs are required. The remote has two sides, with a conventional full keyboard (rubber buttons) on the bottom and a basic control panel (rubber buttons) on the top. It also features an IR transmitter for simply powering on/off the TV, so you won’t need to use two remotes all the time. This remote also has basic functions for volume, mute, menu and directions that work for both Smart TV and Analog TV modes. As mentioned, the remote is rechargeable and uses a standard micro USB port with any smartphone charger or USB port available. Being rechargeable is required here is because conventional batteries won’t last you long enough as you would be using this remote as a mouse and keyboard pretty often. Performance:The Mitashi TV has a 4K panel that can top a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. It runs on an Android operating system and has a basic dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The Mail GPU can take care of graphics and full HD videos with ease, but the hardware is not capable of 4K content. In Android mode, you will not be able to enjoy the 4K possibilities as the processor and codecs are not able to produce the output. So in order to gain full 4K possibilities, you would require using the HDMI inputs using an external 4K player/dongle for its full 4K potential. We tried using several players. However, with a limited amount of 4K content available today, and the price for streaming or owning 4K content is not as cheap, there are pretty rare possibilities of users switching to 4K content after buying a 4K TV.Yes, there are several DTH operators who are streaming 4K content with a 4K-ready STB, but the 4K channels are limited. All TV channels in India today are still operating at 1080i (maximum) and we are still far away from 4K content becoming a norm here. However, if you want to enjoy 4K content online, you can stick in some 4K-ready dongles to do so. For example, using a 4K HDMI dongle (like the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K) can give you 4K Netflix content. In short, the Smart TV is not for 4K content, but you will have to use an external hardware to drive 4K content to the TV.As for the smart TV features, the Mitashi gets a full thumbs up from our end. The user interface is very simple and straight-forward and is pretty clean enough for any new user to follow and use. The UI colour theme is very pleasing to the eye and the menus are very simple to browse through. The menus system is very straightforward and almost no confusing – you cannot get anything wrong here. The menu system is kept bare minimum with screens such as source, apps, app management and media, apart from the settings, which is also very minimal.Pre-installed apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Skype and a browser will let you instantly use the TV initially. Google Play Store is also present which will allow you to install the apps you require with great ease — no sideloading of apps necessary. Additionally, you can also sideload apps from the file manager if you wish — simply dump APK files on a pen drive, hook it to the USB port and run the app manager, and you will see the list of apps that will be available for installation. All-in-all, the interface is a cakewalk for anyone who is using the TV. Mitashi has really managed to keep this Smart TV as simple as required, and yet equipped with everything that is required to make it easy for even a child to use.As for the picture quality, we found this at par with most expensive models out there. The contrast and brightness levels can be adjusted to suit the room lighting conditions or to a user’s preference. Colours are vibrant and it is a pleasure to watch full HD to 4K movies on it. However, do note that watching 4K content using the USB storage (via the onboard Android operating system) will not work as expected. The hardware does not seem capable of handling full 4K encoding. Also, the codecs don’t work well for 4K content. Playing up to full HD via the Android TV OS works well, without any issues. For 4K content, you will need an external media player that can support resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. We did expect newer smart TVs to support 4K content out of the box given that this should be the norm. A better hardware and supported codecs are what the company needs to work on.Verdict:The Mitashi curved smart TV (MiCE050v34 4KS) is presently available in the market for an MRP of Rs 57,999, while online stores are selling it at an offer price of Rs 49,999. The TV offers a good value for money considering the curved panel and an elegant look. However, the downside of the TV is the inability of native 4K playback via the operating system. If you are looking for a new 4K UHD television for your home, the Mitashi MiCE050v34 4KS is what we could recommend for your list.Click on Deccan Chronicle Technology and Science for the latest news and reviews .

Marine Drive to get back yellow glow Marine Drive will get back its yellow glow by the middle of this month. wholesale LED Back-Up Lights File photo of Marine Drive Marine Drive will get back its yellow glow by the middle of this month. The Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), which is installing the LED lights on the iconic road, has said it would install yellow LED street lights by January 20.The high court has directed the civic body to replace white LED lights with yellow ones across the small stretch of Marine Drive to get illumination evaluated. Accordingly, lux measurement of yellow LEDs was checked on four street poles near Wankhede Stadium and it was submitted to the heritage committee a couple of months back. Accordingly, the BMC decided that white LEDs would be replaced by yellow LED street lights on entire Marine Drive road from Nariman Point to Walkeshwar.A senior official from the EESL said, “The yellow LED lights at Marine Drive were required to be made according to certain specifications. It was a customised order, which demanded precise designing and mapping. The lux levels will also have to be matched for the traffic. Hence there was a delay in completing it. However, now all the stock is ready and the street light will be installed latest by January 15-20.”In January last year, the BMC had replaced sodium vapour lamps with white LED lights on the Marine Drive stretch, claiming that LED lights would be energy efficient and غير مجاز مي باشدt-effective. However, the decision was mired in controversy. Shiv Sena nominated corporator Avkash Jadhav, who had opposed the installation of LED lights, said, “The municipal commissioner’s intervention has come very late, but thankfully he understood the relevance of the issue.”

This is a potentially major revision to the fundamental idea of plate tectonics, said Philip Heron from U of T. Toronto: Ancient geologic events may have left deep 'scars' that can come to life and play a role in earthquakes, mountain formation and other ongoing processes on our planet, a new study which involved super-computer modelling of Earth's crust and upper-mantle has found. This changes the widespread view that only interactions at the boundaries between continent-sized tectonic plates could be responsible for such events, researchers said.Scientists from University of Toronto (U of T) in Canada and the University of Aberdeen in the UK have created models indicating that former plate boundaries may stay hidden deep beneath the Earth's surface. These multi-million-year-old structures, situated at sites away from existing plate boundaries, may trigger changes in the structure and properties at the surface in the interior regions of continents, researchers said."This is a potentially major revision to the fundamental idea of plate tectonics," said Philip Heron from U of T. Researchers have proposed a 'perennial plate tectonic map' of the Earth to help illustrate how ancient processes may have present-day implications."It is based on the familiar global tectonic map that is taught starting in elementary school. What our models redefine and show on the map are dormant, hidden, ancient plate boundaries that could also be enduring or "perennial" sites of past and active plate tectonic activity," said Russell Pysklywec from U of T.To demonstrate the dominating effects that anomalies below the Earth's crust can have on shallow geological features, researchers used SciNet - home to Canada's most powerful computer and one of the most powerful in the world - to make numerical models of the crust and upper-mantle into which they could introduce these scar-like anomalies. They created an evolving "virtual Earth" to explore how such geodynamic models develop under different conditions. "For these sorts of simulations, you need to go to a pretty high-resolution to understand what is going on beneath the surface," said Heron."We modelled 1,500 kilometres across and 600 kilometres deep, but some parts of these structures could be just two or three kilometres wide. It is important to accurately resolve the smaller-scale stresses and strains," he said.Using these models, researchers found that different parts of the mantle below the Earth's crust may control the folding, breaking, or flowing of the Earth's crust within plates - in the form of mountain-building and seismic activity - when under compression. They suggest that ancient geologic events may have left deep 'scars' that can come to life to play a role in earthquakes, mountain formation, and other ongoing processes on our planet."Ultimately, this information could even lead to ways to help better predict how and when earthquakes happen. It is a key building block," said the findings were published in the journal Nature Communications.

The meeting was held at the Bombay Veterinary College in Goregaon on Wednesday and another meeting has been convened to find a solution after June 16.The meeting between the 130 Victoria license owners and the authorities to decide upon the compensation terms as directed by the Bombay high court turned out to be a non-starter as the license holders, some of who hold multiple licenses, did not agree to the decision that multiple license holders would get compensation only for one license. The meeting was held at the Bombay Veterinary College in Goregaon on Wednesday and another meeting has been convened to find a solution after June 16.According to some of the license  supply LED turn signal lights owners, who were invited for the meeting by the state authorities, the high court in its order banning Victorias, had directed the state to compensate the license holders, owners and all those connected with the Victoria to ensure that they do not lose out on a source of livelihood.Pursuant to the court order the state had offered two compensation packages and asked the affected persons to make a choice between taking a one-time compensation of Rs 3 lakh per license or Rs 1 lakh per license and a street vending license. The meeting was aimed at getting to know the decision of the license holders as to their choice of compensation.“The officials informed us that the compensation would be given to each license holder but when it came to people like us, who have multiple licenses in our names, we were told that we would receive only one compensation for the multiple licenses,” said Rajubhai, who has ten licenses in his name. He added that there were persons who had 15 or more licenses in a single name and hence deserved to get compensated as many times but the officials were not ready to accept it.Another multiple license holder said that a lot of lives depend on the compensation and the decision of the authorities to restrict compensation to one per person was not fair and hence it was not acceptable to those present at the meeting.Since a lot of license holders belong are Muslims, who were unable to attend the meeting due to the ongoing Ramazan fasts, the officials said that another meeting would be held after June 16, wherein the concerns of the license holders would be addressed afresh.
